Appeals Policy

1.1. You have the right to appeal against the decisions made by the TEFL Society.

1.2. The Appeals Procedure can be used by every participant on a course through TEFL Society

1.3. The grounds under which you can raise an appeal are limited to: an error of fact in the results issued following the decision of the TEFL Society; and/or an irregularity in the conduct of the assessment, the written instructions, or written advice relating to the assessment, where this can be shown to have had an adverse effect on the outcome of your qualification, where the TEFL Society has made an unreasonable decision; and/or any extenuating circumstances which can be shown to have had an adverse effect on your academic performance, which were unknown or known by the TEFL Society.

1.4. All information provided by you as part of an appeal will be treated confidentially and in accordance with Data Protection Policy. This means that any details and supporting evidence will be shared only with staff who need to know in order to process and consider your appeal.

1.5. If you provide personal information about another individual, for example, extenuating circumstances relating to another person which you consider have had an impact on you, you must obtain their consent to share this information with us. 

1.6. The TEFL Society is committed to providing clear and transparent information to you on how to appeal against a formal decision. You can lodge a formal appeal by returning to us the form linked here and emailing info{at}teflsociety.org with the form attached. Please use the subject line ‘Official Appeal against Qualification Decision’

1.7. In order to be eligible for consideration, you will need to demonstrate that you have an arguable case under one or more of the appeal grounds outlined under 1.3 (above), which can be supported by appropriate evidence. If no grounds are given and/or an arguable case has not been presented and/or no evidence is presented, the request may not be considered or may be rejected. 

1.8. The TEFL Society aims to resolve all appeals promptly, within one month you will receive a response for our team outlining the timeline of your appeal being processed, resolved or rejected.

2. Appeals Process Map

2.1 In order to process and appeal participants must follow the steps mapped out below:
2.1.1 Make an informal appeal by emailing info{at}teflsociety.org 

2.1.2 TEFL Society will review your email and come back to you with a decision within two weeks

2.1.3 If participant is unhappy with TEFL Society decision they may enter a formal appeal through the appeal form

2.1.4 A formal appeal will trigger and internal review through the IQA officer regarding the appeal

2.1.5 If required the appeal will be escalated to the awarding body following the awarding body’s appeals process

2.2 Appeals must be registered within two weeks of a markers decision
