Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The aim of this Recognition of prior learning (RPL) Policy is to provide a framework for whether participants’ prior skills, knowledge or qualifications can be recognised within the TEFL Society’s qualifications.

TEFL Society rarely accepts external RPL because our qualifications and courses use integrated assessment, making equivalence difficult to establish reliably.

1.1 As a beginner course the TEFL Society focuses on participants at the beginning of their TEFL journey, especially for those taking part in our in-house 120 hour TEFL course

1.2 For participants looking to join our Level 3 TESOL or Level 5 TESOL qualifications, we require participants to complete our in-house 120 hour TEFL course. Therefore our in-house 120 hour TEFL course is the only certificate we recognise when it comes to prior learning.

1.3 To be eligible for prior learning credits for the TEFL Society’s Level 3 or Level 5 TESOL qualifications, you must have completed our 120 hour TEFL course after May 2024.

1.4 A further deposit or fee may be required to move your 120 hour TEFL into our Level 3 and Level 5 TESOL qualifications.

This policy will be reviewed annually. Last reviewed 30/05/26
