Assessment and Internal Quality Assurance Policy

Introduction:

The purpose of this policy is to establish a framework for assessment and internal quality assurance at the TEFL Society. This policy ensures that the assessment process is fair, transparent, and consistent across all courses. It also provides guidance on how the internal quality assurance process will be managed and monitored to ensure that the quality of education and training is maintained.

Policy Statement:

The TEFL Society is committed to providing high-quality education and training to our students. This policy is designed to:

  1. Ensure that assessment is fair, transparent, and consistent across all courses and programs.
  2. Ensure that the internal quality assurance process is managed and monitored to maintain the quality of education and training.
  3. Comply with the accreditation requirements of our awarding body.

Procedure:

  1. Assessment:

1.1 Assessment is a critical part of the learning process, and the TEFL Society is committed to ensuring that the assessment process is fair, transparent, and consistent across all courses and programmes.

1.1.1 Assessment criteria and standards will be clearly communicated to participants

1.1.2 Assessment will be designed to measure the achievement of learning outcomes, through practical tasks that test your skills.

1.1.3 Assessment will be valid, reliable, and fit for purpose.

1.1.4 Assessment will be marked consistently and accurately.

1.1.5 Feedback will be provided to participants promptly and will be constructive and actionable.

1.6 Students will have the opportunity to appeal assessment decisions through a clearly defined appeals process.

  1. Internal Quality Assurance:

2.1 The TEFL Society is committed to maintaining the quality of education and training. The following procedures will be followed to ensure that the internal quality assurance process is managed, monitored and leads to consistent quality across all TEFL Society marking:

2.1.1 Internal quality assurance will be managed by an IQA officer who is suitably qualified and experienced.

2.1.2 Internal quality assurance will be conducted regularly, quarterly periods including before certification windows, and will include the review of assessment activities, learner achievement, and assessment outcomes given out by markers

2.1.3 The internal quality assurance process will be documented, and records will be kept to demonstrate compliance with the accreditation requirements of our awarding body.

2.1.4 Any identified areas for improvement will be addressed through an action plan, which will be regularly reviewed and updated following each certification window.

2.1.5 All IQAs will be followed by standardisation meetings with markers in order to maintain a consistent level of assessment between markers and to address any requirements as of the actions planned made

2.1.6 IQA sampling strategy will happen in according with awarding body recommendations for each certification window and quarterly reviews.

Internal quality assurance happens quarterly with evaluation assessment judgments made by markers and audited by IQAs. This involves examining learner portfolios, either prior to making decisions on a particular unit or after completing the full body of work. 

  1. External Quality Assurance:

3.1 The TEFL Society recognises the importance of external quality assurance (EQA) and will work closely with our awarding body to ensure that we meet their requirements. The following procedures will be followed:

3.1.1 The TEFL Society will cooperate with EQA activities, including inspections and audits.

3.1.2 We will ensure that all EQA activities are conducted in a professional and respectful manner.

3.1.3 We will respond promptly to any feedback or recommendations provided by the EQA team.

3.1.4 We will use EQA activities to inform our IQA process and identify areas for improvement.
